Dear GSSM Community,

We are excited to announce the launch of the "Name the Eagle" contest, giving you the chance to help us officially name our school mascot! Our eagle represents the strength, excellence, and vision that define GSSM, and now it’s time to give it a name that reflects our community’s spirit.

Why is this such a big deal?

Naming our eagle is more than just picking a name it’s about creating a lasting symbol that will unite and inspire the GSSM community for years to come. This mascot will be a reflection of who we are, and you get to be part of this special moment in shaping that identity. Your participation means you're helping to establish a tradition that will leave a mark on GSSM’s legacy.

  • Link will be shared next week! Use the link to submit your name ideas. You’ll have the chance to suggest creative and meaningful names that embody GSSM’s values.
  • Submissions: After we collect all name submissions, a panel made up of members of the Student Council, a faculty representative, and a staff representative will select the top 5 names.
  • Voting: The entire GSSM community will then have the opportunity to vote on the final winning name.
  • Winning Name Announcement: Our goal is to announce the winning name at the next Community Meeting in November.
  • This is a unique opportunity for you to contribute to something meaningful and exciting. We can’t wait to see the incredible name ideas you come up with!

Be sure to keep an eye out for the submission link in your inbox next week and get ready to make history by naming GSSM’s eagle!

This guy deserves a name!

Thank you for your question, Elaine. Please see our explanation below as to why we have decided to not include alumni in the contest.

As Marketing prepares to kick off the "Name the Eagle" contest, I want to take a moment to address a decision that we know may raise some questions. After careful consideration, we’ve decided that alumni will not be participating in this particular contest. While we deeply value our alumni and their continued contributions to GSSM, this decision was made with our current students, faculty, and staff in mind. Here's why:

The purpose of this contest is to create a new tradition that involves our current community—the students, faculty, and staff who are directly part of GSSM’s present-day experience. By focusing the contest on our active school members, we aim to give those who live and breathe GSSM every day a special opportunity to shape a piece of our shared identity.

This does not diminish the important role our alumni play in GSSM’s legacy. We plan to continue creating events and initiatives where alumni can share in celebrating GSSM traditions, and their involvement in our community remains invaluable. For this particular contest, however, we want to emphasize the voices of those currently on campus as we build this new tradition together.

We appreciate your understanding and continued support. We are confident this process will help strengthen school pride and create lasting memories for everyone here at GSSM. Thank you for being a vital part of our community, and we look forward to sharing more exciting events in the future.

Cheers!

Dear Chelsea RLC, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to sincerely apologize for my recent email response, in which I included a meme, despite being explicitly asked not to do so. I understand that my actions may have come across as unprofessional and disrespectful, and I want to acknowledge the impact this might have had on you and others who may have seen it.

Upon reflection, I realize that my choice to include that meme was inappropriate, particularly given the clear guidance I had received. I recognize that my actions could have detracted from the tone and purpose of our communication, and I deeply regret any frustration or disappointment I may have caused.

It was never my intention to undermine the importance of our correspondence or to disregard your request. I acted without considering the broader implications, and for that, I am truly sorry. I understand that emails, especially in a professional setting, need to be handled with care and respect, and I failed to do that in this instance.

Please know that I am taking this situation seriously and have taken steps to ensure this does not happen again. I am committed to improving my communication approach and to respecting the guidelines set forth by you and our organization.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I appreciate any further guidance you might have on how I can make amends or improve my actions moving forward. I value our relationship and am dedicated to earning back your trust and confidence in my professionalism.

Thank you again, and please feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss this further.

Sincerely, [A student] :D
